I’m terrified.

I'm outside of Tokyo. Japan. Full moon. πŸŒ™

I’m on a hike with my samurai teacher.

Somewhere in the mountains.

‘Oh, there are wild bears here - let’s sing,’ he tells me.

And so we do. In Japanese. (And of course, I don’t speak Japanese).

We then do a water meditation and practise swordsmanship for a few hours.

I keep asking questions (often using Google Translate).

About the Way of Samurai, swordsmanship, Zen.

Until he starts laughing: ‘In the West, you think that learning is linear. It’s not.’

He picks up my notebook and draws a set of steps.

‘You think that learning is like walking up a set of steps. You’re gradually adding blocks of knowledge.’

He then draws a circle.

β• ‘In the East, we see learning as a circle. Your first lesson is your last lesson. There’s no distinction’.

This has made me question how I learn in my day-to-day life.

That night, as we walked through the mountains, singing, trying to scare the wild bears away, I vowed to change both the way I was learning and build my own Personal Growth Curriculum. πŸ“ˆ

➑️ Today it looks like this:

1. Samurai classes 1x week - to challenge my body and mind

2. Therapy sessions 2 x month - aka meetings with my co-pilot

3. Personal training 4-5 x week with an ex-Olympic champion - as a tool to overcome every problem in my life

4. Voice classes 1 x week - to understand myself better (or where I’m restraining/ constricting and not letting it go)

5. DJ learning set (constantly) - I use YouTube, Audible and Kindle to create and curate DJ seats for knowledge-based learning

6. Journaling (daily) - for structuring my growth, thinking and business

7. Interviews and mentoring (ongoing) - to excel in new areas

When writing this story, I’ve also accidentally written a whole FREE mini-course to help you build your own Personal Growth Curriculum.

You can find sign up here for my weekly stories and I'll send it over: https://www.dariuslukas.academy/weekly-story

It’s free. It takes only 15 min. to go through it, and it helps you to immediately shape your own learning.

So in my new and very free mini-course Personal Growth Curriculum:

- I’ll show you how I’ve structured my own personal curriculum and why each element is there.

- There are 7 writing prompts to help you brainstorm what you should include in your curriculum.

- And lastly, I’ve drawn up a 10 Question Framework that will help you finalise and start following Your Own Growth Curriculum.

Enter your email here and I'll whizz it through: https://www.dariuslukas.academy/weekly-story
