Can anyone recommend a truly elite artist in the LA area who specializes in large-scale biomech or bioorganic projects? I recently relocated to Southern California for work and finally saved up enough budget to start a full back piece, which has been a dream of mine for years. I’ve visited a few local shops in my neighborhood, but most guys seem to focus on fine-line or traditional work, and I really need someone who understands custom anatomical flow on a massive scale. Since this is going to cover my entire back, I want to find a highly decorated professional who frequently participates in major conventions and has a solid portfolio of heavy, detailed industrial and organic fusion.

LA is definitely the ultimate playground if you are looking to get inked, but navigating through thousands of artists on social media can be overwhelming. Personally, I’ve only stuck to small minimalist designs because the thought of sitting through multiple long sessions for a massive back piece sounds completely exhausting. It is always fascinating to see people dedicate so much time and real estate to these massive art projects though, so I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming search!

Welcome to SoCal! For a large-scale, uncluttered biomechanical back piece, you need an expert. I highly recommend Rinat Tattarin in West Hollywood. He’s an award-winning artist specializing in custom freehand layouts. Having the design drawn directly onto your skin to fit your body's natural movements makes a night-and-day difference for the final result.
