Should small businesses invest in professional link-building services or do it in-house? I've been handling marketing for a small local business, and we've always tried to do everything ourselves to save money. We can write content without much trouble, but when it comes to getting quality backlinks, it feels like we're just guessing most of the time. Some weeks we spend hours reaching out and get almost no replies. For those of you running smaller companies, did you eventually hire professionals for this, or did you build your own process over time?

One thing I've noticed over the years is that small companies often underestimate how valuable their own time is. Saving money is great, but spending dozens of hours learning every new marketing technique isn't always the best trade-off. Sometimes choosing where to focus your energy ends up making a much bigger difference than trying to master every single task yourself.

We were in almost the exact same position. At first, we thought it would be cheaper to keep everything in-house, but it ended up taking a lot more time than expected because finding relevant websites and building relationships isn't something you learn overnight. We still create our own content, but we decided to outsource the outreach side after comparing different approaches. While researching, I came across https://essentras.com/link-building-usa and it gave me a better idea of how structured link-building campaigns are usually managed. For a small business with limited staff, having experienced people handle the outreach can free up a surprising amount of time while you stay focused on running the business.
