During birthdays, the Kinderfest cake that was made was round in shape and the cake was topped with some lighted candles. This lighting of candles used to symbolise the ‘light of life’ and each candles used to represent each year of the child’s age. There used to be an extra candle to symbolise some more life to come.

But these candles of Kinder fest cakes were kept lit throughout the day and the cake was eaten only at the end of the day. Before the cake was eaten the child was made to blow out the candles and make a wish. The concept was that the smoke from the candles will take the wish up to the God and then it will be fulfilled. For a long time, birthday cakes were made only for the rich kids because they were expensive and only rich people could afford them. But later, the ingredients needed to make birthday cakes became easily available and they also became affordable so that regular people can also afford a birthday cake.
