Claire’s physical business has been doing well in recent years; helping clients to home grow food and compost, both seeing an unprecedented rise in popularity. As a leading expert, Claire spent her time teaching at small-scale workshops, alongside developing edible landscapes for her clients.

Before the crisis, her company was achieving turnovers of NZ $220K per annum and she was enjoying a successful and thriving business, so when the government put in lockdown and the business paused, Claire invested the extra time to work on further developing her business, instead of running it.

Not only that, but a cash infusion from the government of NZ $11,00 meant the business didn’t have to worry about cash flow or how to support the employees. Claire’s focus turned to finally progressing the next step of her digital business plan – launching an online membership the site, teaching gardening and composting to beginners around the world – something she’d been looking to prioritize for a while.

A Boot Camp and a Trip to Bali

Claire’s ambitions have always been bold, never wanting to settle for less, with her sights firmly set on building a million-dollar business. For the longest time, however, Claire found herself caught up in running the day-to-day of her business, leaving little time to explore the skills and technology required to reach that next goal.

Having been slowly building towards her vision for more than a year, Claire had already invested time in entrepreneurial education, which took Claire to Bali for Wealth Dynamics Masters in 2019 and into the Genius community. But it wasn’t until she joined Alberto’s Boot Camp, where she began to understand and implement the teachings of the Millionaire’s Masterplan.

It was from this point that Claire was able to connect these learnings with her wider research, goals, and vision to put the right plan in place to scale her digital business and expertise into her online membership, reaching a much larger audience of potential customers. All that was needed was time to work on it, and COVID carved out enough for Claire to begin.

Juggling Balls

With the time to finally work on the creation and launch of her online membership, Claire joined the Crisis Leadership Academy to learn how to implement a compelling promotion plan to recruit members. Her goal was to recruit 100 members at NZ $27p/m.

It was ambitious, and not only that, the New Zealand government started to release lockdown measures, meaning Claire’s physical business also picked up once more. Claire began to juggle balls left, right, and center to get the content is written and developed, the promotion created in time, whilst still delivering to her physical customers and ongoing business commitments. Four hours of sleep were often marked.

A New Team, a Membership site, and Partnerships

Working hard with her ever-expanding team, with 6 in the physical side and 3 in the digital, and continuing mentorship from Paulina Roach, the membership site launched in Aug 2020 with members already signed up. Additionally, Claire was able to use her skills to network and build partnerships expanding the physical side too, including working with local distributors for seeds and other products.

The education she prioritized had enabled her to finally work on the next level of her business, to get closer to her goals. The results are promising; so far, the businesses are tracking at NZ $120K in the first five months of the financial year.

Lessons for Claire

For Claire, it was like learning a whole new language to grow her business. She
discovered just how essential support was from the right people to achieve the success she desired and hitting her ambitious deadlines. Her intentions moving forward are continual personal growth, building out the membership site to 3,000 members, and achieving an NZ $1.2 Million in turnover.

Her advice to others: “You can’t jump to the next thing until you’ve taken the first steps. It’s a sequence, follow it to scale your business.”
