Christen Killick flew as a commercial pilot for 18 years, which could be considered for some a whole lifetime. However what she took away from it, wasn’t just incredible travel and life experiences, Christen learnt a way of doing things that many don’t. She built up the know-how of effective communication and strategising. Something that often saved lives.
Knowing the communications strategy would apply to the corporate world, Christen took her long learnt skills and set up her business consulting with CEOs, Managing Director’s and top-level executives to show them there was a different way of doing business. And this is how Making Teams Work was born.
- High-Touch to No-Touch
The business thrived, with Christen being booked to speak in corporations across the world, with most of her work being face to face and in-person training. However, when COVID reached critical impact, Christen like many other high-touch service providers found her business dwindling. It was time to pivot online, which was something she’d been considering for a long period but time had never been on her side. Always busy working in the business, rather than on it.
In fact, the pandemic brought the goal to go online right to the top of Christen’s to-do list. She’d envisioned working online with teams, but it was always quite limited, focusing on her local business. Christen needed clarity and a chance to see her business from a third perspective, which was her main motivation for joining the Crisis Leadership Academy.
- Seeing the Bigger Picture
The programme allowed her to focus on clarifying her next steps. In the fortunate position of being able to focus time on the academy, it was a chance for Christen to get advice from advisors and mentors about how things could be different. As a Mechanic profile, she would often be stuck in the detail. A struggle to know where to begin and gain perspective on herself, so this was a perfect opportunity to gain that support.
Crisis Leadership Academy also allowed Christen to build out her network beyond her local business, opening her eyes to the potential and opportunities available across the world. If she wanted to create an international business, this was the perfect place to start. It meant she had to redefine her avatars for these new markets and envision a future she really wanted; a Global Digital Business.
- A Different Kind of Result
The results for Christen from the programme weren’t necessarily figures in a spreadsheet, instead, it was the catapult in her thinking enabling her to move towards her long term goals. Cutting out the transition step she had been gearing up for and not doing anything about. It was the expansion of her network and the push in the right direction with her fully conceptualised promotion plan.
We look forward to seeing Christen on the Global Stage.
