Dr. Fei-Fei Li is a trailblazer in the world of artificial intelligence (AI) and a champion for diversity and inclusion in tech. She is the co-director of the Stanford Human-Centered AI Institute and founder of AI4ALL, a nonprofit organization that aims to increase diversity and inclusion in AI.

Dr. Li was born in Chengdu, China, in 1976. She grew up during China’s Cultural Revolution, a time of great social and political upheaval. Despite the challenges of living in a society undergoing radical change, Dr. Li excelled in school and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Science and Technology of China.

In 1995, Dr. Li moved to the United States to pursue her graduate studies in electrical engineering at California Institute of Technology (Caltech). It was during her time at Caltech that Dr. Li discovered her passion for AI.

After earning her Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Caltech in 2005, Dr. Li joined the faculty at Princeton University, where she continued to conduct research in computer vision and machine learning. In 2009, she joined the faculty at Stanford University, where she helped establish the Stanford AI Lab.

In 2015, Dr. Li co-founded AI4ALL to address the lack of diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. AI4ALL’s mission is to create pathways for underrepresented groups, including women, minorities, and people from low-income communities, to pursue careers in AI.

Through AI4ALL, Dr. Li has developed summer camps and educational programs that provide high school students with opportunities to learn about AI and gain hands-on experience with the technology. The organization also provides mentoring and career development resources to help students pursue careers in the field.

Dr. Li’s work with AI4ALL has received widespread recognition. In 2018, she was named one of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders by Fortune magazine. She was also recognized as one of the Top 10 Women in Tech by Elle magazine and received the Anita Borg Institute’s Women of Vision Award in 2017.

Dr. Li has also been a vocal advocate for diversity and inclusion in tech, speaking out against bias in AI and calling for greater representation of women and minorities in the industry.

Dr. Li’s trailblazing work in AI and her commitment to diversity and inclusion have made her an inspiration to many in the tech industry and beyond.
