Letting go is about accepting what is happening right now in the present moment and not worrying about what will come up tomorrow. It’s an internal process of learning to love yourself enough to let go of everything that is no longer serving you.

The Beatles hit song singing “speaking words of wisdom, let it be” and the Buddhism phrase “just let go” which became a regular mantra for many people is often said. But what exactly is meant by let it be and let it go? According to Buddhist philosophy (and the Beatles), it means to let go of our expectations of how things should be and to accept things as they are. This perspective is aimed at highlighting that when life takes you in an unexpected direction, you need to trust it is taking you closer to where you are truly meant to be. Sometimes you have to let go of the life you thought you wanted in order to make room for the life you are truly meant for.

My feedback to you when letting go is the following;

  1. Remember replaying the past over and over in your head is not going to change anything.
  2. Deciding to hold on to the past will hold you back from creating a strong sense of self, a self that isn’t defined by your past, but rather by who you want to be.
  3. Come to terms with the fact that things will not always go according to plan. Things will change, move, adapt and evolve. Allow yourself to do the same through the process of letting go.
  4. Let go of the idea that you can control others’ actions. We really only have control over ourselves and how we act and respond to others.
  5. Do not become overly consumed by what other people may think of you. Free yourself from being controlled by what other people think. Start to prioritize how you feel about yourself.

As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” You can’t live by your values if you’re living for the approval of others.

6. Fear holds us back because it closes our minds to possibilities for our future and locks us into our comfort zone. Fears fill us with doubt and “what ifs.” The more you do to get out of your comfort zone, the more fear will subside. In life, do what scares you, and you’ll grow and succeed!

Carl Jung said, “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” There’s a lesson in that for all of us: When you let go of whatever it is that’s holding you back from experiencing yourself. You will realize that you are not your pain, your past, or your emotions. It’s the negative ideas about ourselves and our hurtful self-talk that get in the way of who we really are.

Being able to let go requires a strong sense of self, which gives you the ability to learn and grow from your experiences. If you need assistance on your journey to your authentic self, do not hesitate to contact me.

In love, light and happiness
