Schwarzenegger grew up in a poor, broken home. His father was abusive, but Schwarzenegger’s focus was always on something greater. At 18, Arnold was in the army. however, he went AWOL (left without consent, which was illegal) to enter his first bodybuilding competition where he won the Mr. Junior Europe Title. In his mind, this was his ticket to his dream lifestyle,

“The Mr. Universe title was my ticket to America – the land of opportunity, where I could become a star and get rich.”

Schwarzenegger won Mr. Olympia a massive 7 times with this mentality. When in the acting in the movie The Barbarian, Schwarzenegger said that after several takes, his legs were cut up, but he was so motivated to have the end picture complete that it didn’t matter about the pain he was going through, what mattered was what would be in the film. He stated the pain was temporary but what will be on that film will last forever. This is how he’s able to thrive.

Arnold Schwarzenegger used to watch a lot of movies as a kid, and coincidentally, he was a major fan of the Hercules movies starring Reg Parker. The movies inspired Schwarzenegger’s bodybuilding career, acting career, and love of America. Even though his mother and father had other plans for him, Arnold Schwarzenegger began weight training at 15 and had big goals. He would also hang up posters of bodybuilders all over his room to keep him motivated and allow him to visualize being the bodybuilder he strived to be.

Schwarzenegger advice, “Visualize Your Success, Then Go And Do It.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger understands the golden principle “How you do one thing is how you do everything”, he has held many titles, which include Mr. Olympian, the Governor of California, The Terminator and many more. The reason being is that once he achieves something, he doesn’t stop. He uses the same mentality to achieve his next goal.

Schwarzenegger has built a muscle that doesn’t take no for an answer, overcoming adversity in bodybuilding allowed him to use the same mentality to overcome adversity in acting. He shares that when he wanted to be an actor, everyone thought no one would want someone who couldn’t even speak English properly, who had a heavy accent, but he didn’t take no for an answer. Schwarzenegger then used that same mentality to become the Governor of California.

“I knew I was a winner back in the late sixties. I knew I was destined for great things. People will say that kind of thinking is totally immodest. I agree. Modesty is not a word that applies to me in any way – I hope it never will.”

He believed in being a visionary for himself. He imagined a life without failure, where freedom and accomplishments complemented each other.

“Once you have set a picture for you, no matter how weird it may seem initially it sure has something for you in-store, start working toward it. Take baby steps but be consistent in whatever you do.”

Who would have thought, an average boy from a small village-like town in Austria, one day would lead the state as the Governor of California, be a Hollywood superstar and a living textbook for bodybuilding professionals. You can imagine how ridiculous this dream may have seemed to others with almost no chance of it coming true. Most people may have felt scared to share such a dream with others but this guy was different.

Arnold’s life purpose was clear, he decided he would get into bodybuilding, become the greatest bodybuilder of all time, and then use this accomplishment to become a major Hollywood star. Schwarzenegger accomplished all 3!
