Questioning is the art of learning. Learning to ask important questions is the best evidence of understanding there is, far surpassing the temporary endorphins of a correct ‘answer.’

Why Questions Are More Important Than Answers

Why are questions more important than answers? Because answers stop learning while questions start it, contextualizing what we don't know.

By visually mapping their knowledge, organizational sketches help kids spot big gaps in their learning, improving their metacognition and providing them with a handy tool to evaluate their progress.

How Drawing Can Lead to Deeper Understanding

Organizational drawings—concept maps and sketchnotes, for example—help students see gaps in their learning while boosting comprehension by fourfold.

Use Science news stories and events to create curiosity. Take space travel for example. As space agencies plan longer missions how are they going to best feed the astronauts? Are bland, pre-packaged meals going to be the best 'space meal'? Science provides great creative problem-solving opportunities. Identify what has happened recently, create your narrative and then encourage students to explore.

Using Science News Events to Create Engaging Lessons

Developing a bit of a mystery for students to explore when teaching new developments in science can really build engagement in learning.

What an interesting topic? I like the reference to overlearning being closely associated with the concept of 'Flow' - a state of being completely immersed and focused in a particular activity. Dr Phil identifies the characteristics of this state of learning: 🔥 Challenge-Skill Balance 🔥 Clear goals and immediate feedback 🔥 Concentration and focus 🔥 Loss of self-consciousness and time distortion Learner profiling and using AI to help create an individualised learning pathway can be powerful tools for designing and delivering an engaging learning experience.
