We all find ourselves in situations where we feel we have no choice, no way forward.  We tend to blame the event itself and how this is ruining our plans.

At times like these it is important to focus on what we can influence rather than wasting time and energy on the event itself.

In Viktor Frankel’s book, Man’s Search for Meaning, he recounts his struggle for survival in Auschwitz and other concentration camps.  One of the most famous quotes relates to our ability to choose our own response, no matter how terrible the circumstance

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms- to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way”

Clearly an extreme case, yet the sentiment can still apply to our own daily struggles, however large or small
