Ever wondered why there are products you just simply can't get enough off? Even if you know you shouldn't, you still get lost in Facebook, netflix or youtube? Any great offer, especially online follow a simple, but yet effective framework - the hook canvas by Nir Eyal.
Nir Eyal is the author of Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products and Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life. Previously, he taught as a Lecturer in Marketing at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Design School, and has sold two technology companies since 2003.
For most of his career, Nir has worked in the video gaming and advertising industries where he learned and applied (and at times rejected) the techniques used to motivate and manipulate users. He writes to help companies create behaviors that benefit their users while educating people on how to build healthful habits in their own lives.
The hooked framework shares the simplest methodology to get you hooked! So when building a product, mapping out your webinar or challenge, ask yourself the following:
Trigger
1. What internal trigger is your product / event / services addressing?
2. What external trigger gets the user to the product?
Action
3. What is the simplest behaviour in anticipation of reward?
Reward
4. Is the reward fulfilling, but yet leaving the user wanting more?
Investment
5. What is the 'bit of work' done, to increase the likelihood of returning?
