UAV and Genius Group Award Full-Ride Scholarship in Antelope Valley

On May 16th, just over 800 graduating high school seniors gathered at the HW Hunter Pavilion in the Antelope Valley, California, USA. This annual event recognizes high school seniors who graduated with a 4.0. Students who attend the event are entered into raffles for cash scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $15,000 provided by local organizations and businesses.

Outstanding seniors were recognized for their academic achievements from 13 local high schools: Academies of the Antelope Valley, Antelope Valley High School, Desert Christian High School, Eastside High School, Highland High School, Lancaster High School, Littlerock High School, Knight High School, Palmdale High School, Paraclete High School, Quartz Hill High School, SOAR Students High School and The Palmdale Aerospace Academy.

UAV President, Dr Tracy West, was invited to say a few words of encouragement as these seniors were recognized by local leaders. In all $117,000 in scholarships were given away including a full-ride scholarship offered by UAV and Genius Group.

“It was amazing to speak to graduates who have worked so hard over the last four years and hear what their future plans include,” remarked Dr West.

The culmination of the evening was a drawing for a full-ride scholarship valued at up to $60,000 offered by UAV and Genius Group to one high-achieving student. Diana Cruz, from Eastside High School was the lucky winner. She will have the option of using the scholarship herself or paying it forward to another student eager for the opportunity to continue their education.

UAV continues to partner with the local community. Building relationships and opening new opportunities for students to achieve their goals.

On Sunday, GCS hosted an unforgettable Turtle Release event on the beach. Adults and children came to help the tiny hatchlings embark on their journey of a lifetime. Ticket sales also contributed to the conservation of these majestic creatures.
